Yuck: Yuck
Much has been made of this group’s affection for 90s alt-rock bands. The comparisons are fair, to be sure. Indeed, Yuck’s music is in many ways a trip back in time. An amalgam of of various alt-rock pioneers like Dinosaur Jr., My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, and even Pavement. But simply labeling these guys retreads would be wrong. Sure originality is good, but a lack of such doesn’t mean the music isn’t good. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Catchy melodies, some fuzzy guitars, and a generally free-spirited, all-embracing feel that permeates the whole album makes Yuck easily one of my favorites of 2011.

Good writeup. Suicide Policeman is also a standout track, with the great interlude leading up to the Burt Bacharach-like trumpet at the 2:20 mark.
Thanks for reading! Good point on Suicide Policeman. Just another example of how random the whole record is. They really cover a lot of bases.
