Though its moments of gravitas surpass expectations, Watch The Throne is far from a flawless work. More than anything, the album suffers from peculiar sequencing and lack of cohesive vision, a unexpected misstep from any project involving the meticulous Mr. West. The album feels a bit slapdash, with fits and starts and half ideas about progression that never seem to resolve. Opening track “No Church In The Wild” builds momentum like a bullet train, but loses it nearly instantaneously at the hands of a flow-killing instrumental outro. That same instrumental snippet appears elsewhere on the album, seemingly at random, following “New Day” (track six) and “Welcome To The Jungle (track eight) and leading into the album’s first bonus track, “Illest Motherfucker Alive” – a track that also sports a puzzling 3 minutes of silence at its outset.

Thanks for reading! Good point on Suicide Policeman. Just another example of how random the whole record is. They really cover a lot of bases.

Good writeup. Suicide Policeman is also a standout track, with the great interlude leading up to the Burt Bacharach-like trumpet at the 2:20 mark.

Haha, thanks for the comment. Michigan has plenty of speed and athleticism to match. Thankfully, they have a first-rate Defensive coordinator on staff, as a result, their defense will surprise a lot of people this year. I expect the game will be close, and I give Michigan the nod, only because of the fact that it's a home game, and not just any home game but the first night game in the history of the program. Folks are gonna be jacked, and that usually bodes well for the home team. That said, Kelly is a terrific coach, and you guys have tons of talent so a loss wouldn't surprise me by any means.

Ok. I pretty much agree with your preview. Until you get to the part about beating ND. Sorry Ngandu, it ain't happening. The speed of our defense is greatly improved. Baring another major injury a la Dayne Crist last year, ND will come out on top.

I am trying to be objective in this prediction. We are bigger, faster, and considerably improved on offense from last year at this time. I don't see UM hanging with the Irish this season. Frankly I think 11-1 is possible, 10-2 realistic, and 9-3 expected. 8-4 for us would be a major let down.

Here's to the happy return of college football!!!

I was thinking the same thing. Besides Harris, there's Ras-I Dowling from Virginia who is supposed to be very good. He's got big size, and decent speed, but some durability issues. I believe the Lions interviewed him, so maybe the gamble is that they end up with one of those guys. I also wouldn't be shocked if they drafted Mikel Leshoure from Illinois.

While I understand Schwartz's concept in shoring up strength, I think that only makes sense when you have two solid candidates between the 2 positions. But to pass on a CB for a questionable player seems like an unnecessary risk. I thought there would be another decent D lineman in the second round, but as it turns out more then I expected got picked up in the first. On the flip side, I wondered if the Lions have made an attempt to jump up a few spots into the first to get both, but maybe their gambling that Harris or Williams will be there at 44. I wouldnt be upset if we ended up with Williams and Fairly instead of Prince and an OT.
